Analysing my song

Demay-'Make that change'

Analise the lyrics-
Verse 1
I take a flick through the news,
more gun crimes more blues,
kids on the street confused,
never listenting to anybodies views,
another MP confused,
more fake promises, more fakes news,
things change like never,
the police not there,
unless a youth smoke a joint - I bet heat was there,
when Mrs Jones got attacked on her street for spares,
no feds on the scene - I wonder if they even care,
maybe they should have taken a look at reports,
and they would have seen that she'd been getting hassled out on her porch,
got her windows smashed, and now she on life support,
too little too late but I could spare the thought
too many gangs in our capital,
put the gun down little man,
educate yourself, don't abandon school.
a teachers duty to make sure they stay in school,
inspiration to children, and move them all,
Demay has used these lyrics because he wants people to change their lives. In the 1st verse he talks about life on the street and how no one listens to what happens with the economy and how mp's are confused with why people are not listening to the world, He talks about gangs and what they do to people (mrs jones getting attacked). He also talks about how police dont look more into a situation that has happened with someone and about gang members and how they should go back to school to learn instead of being a bad image to our country.

Hook x 2
and its hard on ths streets,
make that change,
it's hard time for the weak,
make that change,
and we could break that pain,
it's more struggling,
do the right thing,
make the change for your brother then,
The chorus is repeated 3 times and it is repeated so the lyrics can stay in your head and it will alwyas remind you to make a change in your life. Demay wants no pain and no weakness in the world, and he wants people not to struggle in their life.

Verse 2
Now little Tommy is scared for his life,
he ticked some drugs from a dealer,
but now he can't pay tonight,
next door Mr Jones praying for his wife,
gangs on the street means he walk with a knife,
sick of hearing broken britain,
we made a lot of cash in history but now the banks saying that we're in recession,
if you're unemployed maybe you could get depression,
he's on benefits now he need a new direction,
I just wake up and look around,
count my lucky stars that I'm in the place I found,
even when the media just wanna dumb us down,
telling us who we should be,
and who to follow now,
there's a government election - it's next week,
upper class of society who wanna speech,
what about the working class if they wanna speak?
howcomes theres no working class in the seats?
He talks about how people are scared because of the streets being so rough and how people always revert to drugs because they think it will stop their depression. Demay carrys on to talk about the incident with mrs jones and how her husband is so worried that he even carrys a knife with him around his area that he lives in because hes so scared. Demay talks about the goverment and reccession and how people without jobs can get depression and the goverment want people to be like their role models. Goverment election is mentioned and all the high classed people will be attending the election.

Hook x 2

it's hard time for the weak,
make that change,
and we could break that pain,
it's more struggling,

Verse 3
Prison not fun,
but every youth on the estate wanna be a gangster,
a rude boy, a sharp tounge,
it's all nonsense and when the shit hit the fan you can't run,
why not do something positive for society,
your hearts won,
Mrs Jones made it through, but she can't run,
she can barely walk,
but she glad to see her son,
where was the local mp while all this was going on?
probably sitting in his big house with the notes on,
what about the police?
maybe hopes gone,
what about the peace?
maybe hopes on,
maybe one day we'll smile when the ropes gone,
its time to wake up and watch for your fellow man,
negativity has always played a bigger hand,
thats why we gotta fight and be the bigger man,
stay strong and do more for the fellow man,
Demay goes on to talk about how all the younger generation want to be gangsters and how they are all rude by swearing, he also talks about if serious trouble happens then they won't act so hard in front of anyone. Demay carrys on to talk about mrs jones and how she's not so badly hurt anymore and how she is so happy to see her son. Demay says about he mp and where he was when this was going on. what about the police, where were they and how helpful were they. The fellow man is all about your friends and that you should always look out for them.

Hook x 4

Target audience-
The target audience that i would associate this song to would be an age barrier between 16 and 20's. I decided this age barrier because the lyrics that are sung could be about how he made a change in his life and how he would like others to make a change.

Genre-
The genre i would say that this song is is R&B because the lyrics are all about being on the street and gangs. He also talks about people who struggle in life and also friends and family and thats what most R&B people sing about now a days.

Gender-
The gender i would say that this song is aimed at will be the male gender because the song is all about life on the streets and how would you make a change to the place or too people individually. Women would be less likely to listen to this song because they don't base their lifes by being on the streets and gangs.

Location where song will be played-
The song will most likely be played in rural areas which have a downfall in their society. People that live near flats or in them could be having a problem with gangs and also the drugs that are avaliable for people to get. Demay wants many people to change their life and not stick to drugs and violence.

Analysing the Music-
The music that demay has in his song works well with lyrics because it is up beat and also a tune which will be stuck in your head after only listening to it once. The music is repeated which also makes it a tune which can be stuck in your head. The instruments that demay uses in his song are a piano and also

Analysing the tempo- The tempo of this song by Demay is a song which is neither to fast nor to slow so i think it will be easy to work with because i will be able to listen to it carefully to pick out the main parts when i need to have a cut in my video.

How would i visually communicate this song in a video?- I would visually show this song by having the song filmed on the streets and also cut a ways of maybe smashed windows to add the dramtic effect of a rough area. I may also have a small video clip of a bunch of boys causing trouble but not literally. (only for the music video) This video can work really well if i put all my comittment into it and also if the costumes and atmosphere don't match the song then my music video wont be a success so i need to get it right first time.

99 dollar music video

What is 99dollarmusicvideo.com?
99dollarmusicvideo.com is a youtube channel which showcases many new and brilliant independant artist and there new and up coming filmakers who are trying to make it into the music industry and all of the songs shown are made with just under $99. The website has many specific rules which should never be broken like when the filming is done for a music video it should all be shot in just one day (24 hours) and also the editing must only be edited in one day (24 hours) aswell. Another rule is that the video should be a collaberation between artist and film maker and many ideas should be contrabuted between both. When the filming and everything is done and the finishing video has been sent you will find out when your song will be premiered onto the site for everyone to see.

What is their ethos?
99dollarmusicvideo's ethos is that they want all their artist to keep to $99 and also to stay with the creativity of their songs so they stay to a high standard. If a song is seen to have broken any rules then the song will not be put onto the website and maybe just thrown away.

What types, labels and genres of muisc appear on their website?
The company only allows people who have not yet become famous and also people who cant access expensive props. Independant artist are the only people who are allowed to have there songs posted onto the channel because they can only afford to make videos with a budget of $99. This wouldnt be needed if you were famous already because they would be able to afford all the props and any extra items they need. The types and genre of music is notified as being pop and indie because if you compare the music to R&B music then you would probably buy R&B because they are more popular, so the genre that are on the website are more rock and indie. The website is a great place for rock music to post their songs onto because then their music can still be heard even if they are not popular.

How does 99dollarmusicvideo.com encourage audience participation?
The channel encourages many other unknown artist to pst there music onto the site so they can become famous, they want as many people as possible to put their video onto youtube so they can become well known. They also have many other ways like through facebook, twitter, itunes, yahoo and also hotmail, these ways are easy to access and you can easily send advice or criticism through the ways i have shown to the directors of the video or even the whole company as a whole. During some songs you can notice that they sometimes show advertisements and this is where someone has asked to have their companys logo or a little bit about the company shown through the song, these adverts must only be 5 seconds or 15 seconds long, anything longer will not be advertised. There is also a comment box under every music video and this is where you can post your comments about the song.

It is possible to make a proffessional quality music video for $99?
In the companys eyes that is there motif. They want to have songs which are made to high quality but the budget was cheap. They want to prove a point to the world that you can still create outstanding music even on a low budget.

The song by merp 'saviour adore' was my example because of a song that is mad with only $99. You can tell that this song was only made on that budget because all the equipment and props that were used in the song were props that one of the people may have had already but items like a stick and a glass bottle could have easily been avalible to get. The creativity in this song could have came from either band or the director but because they had a good companionship they eneded up making a video that is high quality. This song also proves to many artists out in the world that you don't need a large budget to be able to make an outstanding music video.

Good & Bad music video techniques

In one of our lessons we were taught all of the techniques that are included in a music video. Without these techniques you would never really have a music video.
The techniques are;

-Large number of cuts
-Special effects
-Cutting to the beat
-Varied camera language
-Green screen
-Lip-synching

I am going to get 2 videos for each technique and write about which one is good and which one is bad.

Large number of cuts
Good

This song by Connor Maynard 'vegas girl' is a video which contains many cuts even at the beginning of the song, because this song is all about partying and finding a girl it is all up beat and quite fast so the number of cuts is needed for these type of songs, at 45 seconds to 1:05 there are a large number of cuts and this is only the beginning of the song. The impact of this song on the younger audience is that they would want to watch the video because it is very entertaining and also because there are loads of cuts you can see what happens through out the song. This song represents the artist because this song makes out that he is desperate to find a girl he likes, at 2:41 he searches everywhere and then finds her at a roof top party.
Bad

This song by Adele 'someone like you' is my bad choice because throughout the whole song it is just her walking around and having no cuts in the whole song video can make it really boring, at 3:53 there is one cut throughout the song, this song was a good example of having no cuts in a song.  just like this one but the song it self is massive. The technique doesn't work because there are no cuts throughout the video until the end, the impact of this song on the audience is that they can get bored because nothing is happening in the video but the song is what the audience like. This song represented the artist by having her walk along which made her look like she is thinking about this someone, it is unique video but can be boring because nothing really happens.

Special effects
Good

This song is by stooshe 'love me', i chose this song because the special effects that are in the music video make the video unique, it also matches with the song that stooshe are singing. At 5 seconds into the song all 3 women are there in front of the hotel dancing, this instantly shows that this song is going to have so much going on throughout the song. The intentions of using special effects was that they could act like they were in a different world and also have a weird building which was a hotel. The 3 women are acting as helpers at a hotel and they are going around to different rooms and everything in the video is weird. The song video can have an affect on the reader because the video has a lot going on and also the colours that were used in the video make it bright and vibrant so it catches the audiences eye and made them be interested. This song represents stooshe really well because the 3 girls are trying to be funky and create new music, They are new so they thought creating a video that has many bright colours would make them popular.

Bad

This song by the buggles 'video killed the radio star' was chosen because the special effects in this song are silly and were not needed for the song video, straight at the beginning of the song there was a pretend explosion which looks really silly and to the audience they would say it wasn't needed but this was in the 1980's and graphics were only just developing. The effect on the audience is that it looks to them ridiculous because the effects are really bad. The song represents the artist to be a person that believes that music videos have destroyed the meaning of radio, but the song as a whole is good apart from the unnecessary special effects.

Cutting to the beat
Good

The song have chosen is by Justin timberlake 'rock your body' i chose this because this song has a distinctive back track which is easily remembered and also the cuts that go into the song match the beat that is being played. This song has a massive impact on the viewer because this song wants you to get up and dance and also sing along to this song because it is so catchy, this song also represents the artist by having him dance and Justin timberlake likes dancing when he was younger. This song is also about dancing with a girl.
Bad

This song by rick astley 'never gonna give you up' was chosen because the beat to this song 100% doesn't match the cutting off the footage through out the video, this song is always remembered because of the starting tune but the footage doesn't cut with the backing track and because of this it makes the footage look really bad and not best quality. The effect of this is it may not be noticed at first but if you carefully watch then you will notice the mistakes that should never been made. This song represents the artist as up beat but disappointing when the video footage doesn't match the beat.
Varied camera language
Good

I chose This song by Chris brown ft Justin bieber 'next to you' because this song is set in a destroyed area and because its set like that they have had to use a number of shots to make the video look amazing, they have used loads of shots like low shots, high shots and also close ups of the artist when they are singing. In the song video the techniques of different camera language has been used wisely because there are that many shots throughout the song that the song will never get boring, the intended effect of having as many shots as possible is that you can see what is actually happening while the song is going on. The impact on the viewer is that it can engage you into watching the full video just to find out if they save the girl that they like, it also engages you to watch to see what actually happens to the surrounding environment in the video. This song represents both artist in a positive way because it shows that they would die being next to the girl that they love than being alone, it also shows how they would do anything to save the one they love.

Bad

I chose this song by Sinead O'Connor 'nothing compares to you' because this song is all about her standing still and singing, it doesn't really go with the song video so it makes the song video boring. There are some other footage in the video but not enough to make it entertaining, the effect of this video is that it can get boring just looking a a head singing. This song video shows us that this artist wasn't very creative when making the video.
Green screen
Good

I chose this song by Usher 'moving mountains' because during the song video it shows him climbing up a mountain and the only way you can have effects like that is if you use a green screen. Usher chose to use a green screen because he knew it would look good when the full song video was finally finished. In this song the green screen has been used wisely because the song is all about moving mountains and when the footage of mountains moving and him climbing up one it looks realistic. The impact of the video is that when all the footage of mountains moving it actually looks realistic and it can make the audience question how is it done. This song represents the artist really well because it is all about him and what it feels like when people disappear, to him it is like mountains moving.

Bad

This song by Pet shop boys called 'go west' was chosen by me because this song starts off looking promising until the song has a small green screen with a bunch of warriors on there and because this was done in the video it made the rating dropped because it looks ridiculous, the intended effect was to make it look like there is a huge army going 'west' but because it looked bad the effect wasn't very effective. This also had a bad effect on the audience that watched. This song made the artist look rubbish because the video was rubbish.

Lip-syncing
Bad

This was at X factor and this also shows how embarrassing it is when you forget to start singing when it is your turn to sing, it is embarrassing for this person because it is now on you tube and will be on there to remind him of the mistake he made. This guy made a mistake and because of this mistake he may be commented on whenever he sings live.

Style and conventions of music video

The definition of style is that you make a music video with a certain style and you also have to match the style with the song artist you are making a music video for.

Performance, Concert, 'As live'

Performance, concert, 'as live' is where an artist sings there song in a completely different environment compared to what they do when they sing the song in the studios. Ed sheeran was a great example of live because when ever he sings his songs live the audience are more able to connect with him, at 29 seconds into the song the audience are able to hear that when he sings he doesn't use the lip syncing method because he is unique. Ed sheeran also decided to use his own guitar instead of having all backing music so it sounded more original. Ed sheeran sings live because he knows his songs touch the audience and also that he can keep the audience engaged at all time. The impact the audience can have is that it can make them sing along more and also be touched by the lyrics when the artist is singing the song himself.

Narrative

Narrative is all about an artist who sings his or hers song based on there life or something which has happened in their life. Eminem does this in his song because he is a person who has gone through many problems in his life. At 50 seconds into the song there is a scene where he stands up in front of a little group and starts talking to try and get away all his problems. Slim shady has always put his life in his songs because it is inspiring for all his fans. The impact this has on the audience is that it can show you how an artists life was and you can put your self in their shoes when you listen to the song.

Interpretive

Interpretive where a video actions match the lyrics that are sung by the artist. In this song by eminem, there are not many which match but most of them do so i choose this song. At 1:15 in the song he starts writing a letter and the lyrics are about writing a letter, so his actions match the lyrics which is good. The impact this style has on the audience is that they know what is happening by listening to the lyrics or even watching the video because they both match.
Impressionist

Impressionist a where what is said in the song doesn't actually match the video footage shown. This song by A-ha is a good example of this because Take on me has no interlink with being dragged into a magazine and running around being chased, the song should really be more about love and how he wants to be with her but it is something completely different. The impact this can have is confusion because you don't know what is actually happening in the video compared to the lyrics.
Surrealism/Abstract

surrealism/abstract is all about a song video which surprises you went something weird or unique happens. In this song by LMFAO. At 58 seconds he decides to takes of his leggings and dance around almost completely nude which is a shock for the audience that watch this song. The impact this has on the audience is that it can be inappropriate for young viewers to watch.
Animation

Animation is all about a song sung by normal artist but the video being unique and being made into an animation, it can be very artistic and individual. This song by Peter, Bjorn & john is all animation because from the beginning till end there is not one real person included in the song, this song works well with the lyrics because throughout the song video every time lyrics were sung the mouths would move of the animated people. The impact this has on the audience that watch the video is that they can be impressed and engaged by the animation and what happens in the video.

Intertextuality

intertextuality is all about where one media interlinks with another type of media. This song by emeinem has this style through it the whole time, at 13 seconds into the video there is Jessica Simpson in front of the car that was in the film dukes of hazard and at 2:25 into the song as well, eminem dresses up as Elvis and does the jailhouse scenery and dances like him. The impact this has on the audience is that it is more entertaining because there is a lot going on at all times.
Parody

Parody is where some other people that enjoy music decide change a songs lyrics and even the video and make it funny. The song that is changed is unique because they even change the lyrics which makes the song funny and the video it self is whats unique because they make the video engaging for the audience to watch.
The impact of this song on the audience is that they are engaged by the video because there are lots of women semi naked dancing around and singing the parody song. The also make it entertaining fort the audience to watch.

Homage/pastiche

Homage/pastiche is all about a song video which has images from older aged songs or films, it is made to have the same affect as though it was filmed ages ago. This song maroon 5 does this style to perfection because the environment that this song is sung in is just like the scenery that Mick Jagger has been in when he sang a song. There is also clips of him when he was younger dancing. The impact this can have on the audience is that it can engage them and keep them watching because it can remind them of when they saw him do that dance live or when they were young,
