The purpose of music videos
The purpose of music videos is that a company that owns the artist will be able to earn money and also the song artist himself will earn a little bit of extra money, the artist can start a new trend in clothes and also have new fans and also there song played anywhere. Here are just some of the things I'm going to talk about:
- To promote a music video
- To create a visual representation of an artist
- To extend the playability of & provide additional income from a song

To promote a music video
The reason why many song artists create videos is to make extra money, the other reason is that they may also make music videos to catch the audiences eye and make them preview the song, it will also cause many fans wanting to buy the song before it is even out or even buy the album when it comes out. The artist also makes it specific when the album is coming out after the song video is finished this creates a rush for fans to go and buy the album. A new video can also spread through youtube really easily because many people will view the video and tell there friends about it, this can also make the music become well known all around the globe, they can make there video become known around the world because of websites like my space and also video sites like youtube.
I chose this song by Swedish house mafia because it is a new song video and when the song was released it became very popular because the song lyrics got stuck in many peoples head. The song it self became popular because it is a song which you can have at house party's and gigs. This song is a relatively new songs and when it was first broad casted across the world many people like the song and searched more in to it like going onto youtube. The song video hit 25 million viewers on youtube and this wasn't even the official video, this was the video that had been put broad casted on a radio station. When the official video was released onto youtube it made 29 million viewers, 4 million more than the trailer itself. The song video was released with loads of fans anxious to see it. The record label that owns Swedish house mafia is earning money on this video due to the amount of views it got before the song had even come out. Swedish house mafia have been to alot of concerts due to their recent songs but this song 'Dont you worry child' had to be the most popular one yet.

This is all about how an artist looks and also how they perform, when a singer performs they want you to remember how he looks and also how he sings so you will be able to remember him all the time, every time an artist sings he wants to show how he feels and also his intentions in a song, an artist also wears certain clothes so it can make the world know about his brand and everything about him. They can also reinvent them selves by using different style to what they use to wear.
For visual representation i chose Justin biebers song, beauty and a beat because he is a young artist which loads of people look up to his style and copy him and also he is our age which is 17 and this means that he likes his fashion. Justin bieber is young which means that loads of girls follow him and also some boys look up to him and copy his style . Justin biebers songs are all about finding a girl that he truly likes and also a girl which he can dance with to a song. Everything about Justin bieber is unique because his hair style creates a fashion and also the accessories that he wears. The advantage for the record label is that they can earn alot of money because Justin bieber is bringing in loads of fans and also these fans will do anything to see him, The artist also gets something out of it and that is the popularity that comes with being famous and he also earns a little bit of money not alot though. The songs that Justin bieber sing can also be the reason for the earning of money and also the popularity of him. He will always be remembered because hes young, outstanding and very confident person.

This all relies on where there song video is being played on, if there song is put onto youtube then it can be viewed at anytime around the world but when there song is put on TV like MTV then there song will only be played for a month or just two weeks, they wont broadcast the song all the time because it can get old. having there song on TV as well can make the company earn more money than they usually do. If the song artist decides to put the song in a video then the song can be viewed at anytime by the owner of the CD. The song can become more popular when it is put on MTV because there will be alot of people that tune in to that video and watch it. The song can be turned into a video as well, people will by this if they like the video and also having DVDs made will increase the income for the record label if loads of people buy it.
i chose this song by Ellie Golding, anything can happen because her song is new as well and because so many people enjoyed listening to it they thought it could be available at all times if they put it onto youtube and also the music channels like KISS, a wide selection of audiences watch the music channels in their spare time and when the song is played it can earn a bit more money than what it does when someone is buying it. The only down side to this is that they wont broadcast your song on TV for a long time because it could get very boring and also it may have been played at least 100 times. This song has earned Ellie Golding and her record label some money because the song is very catchy and the words are easy to learn so people buy the song or listen to it to sing along to it.

This also helps the singer with his options because it will open more doors because he sings the theme for films. The song always comes out before the actual film does so it creates awareness for the film and also the song can become very popular because of what film it is tie in with.
i chose men in black because it is the theme tune for one of there films because it is an example of synergy, this song was a good song to choose because an actor which was in the film sung the actual song and the actor was Will smith, because he sung the song it created more than just Men in black fans, it created fans that enjoy music. When this song was first released, everyone listened to it and knew that this was the theme tune to the films Men in black. Will smith earned some money because he sung in the song and also the film would have made money on this because it is connected to there movie. The audience had a big part in making the song popular because they had to buy it to show there interests.

Evaluating music video outlets
Mainstream TV-
ITV 1, CHANNEL 4, CHANNEL 5, are just some of the TV programs which allow you to watch music videos on for free but the negative is that music isn't always shown on the channels, mainstream TV isnt popular when it comes down, the age to watch is any age because nothing on these channels is bad. an example of an artist which has been seen on one of these channels is Ed Sheeran and The Wanted. The disadvantage of having your song played on mainstream tv is that it is hardly ever on there because it is not known for music videos to be played on TV, they may only get a clip of there video on a chat show or a morning show.The advantage is that even though it rarely happens but when it does you song can become known and you could get more fans because of having such a small clip shown on TV. Daybreak is a channel which sometimes has well known artits on there, they play a little bit of there new single so it creates awareness fo many fans. when fans see the video there can be alot of news going around about that music video.

The advantage of having a website is that they can become popular by having lots of people view there website and also it will tempt people to buy the new single that they have on there official website, artist websites always keep up to date with many tours that they are doing. They also put there latest song on there websites.
Downloads (legal and illegal)-
Downloading songs has become really popular now because it is quick to get a new song, it doesnt take long for it to download and you can download songs anywhere you go, downloading songs illegaly can be bad because you can cause your phone or computer to catch a virus. downloading songs can be downloaded by anyone. The advantage of downloading songs is that you can easily share the song by sending it to someoen else, it doesn't cost anything, doesn't make you carry around a CD just to listen to a song. The advantage of having your song broadcasted on a channel like this can make you become popular and well known and also it can make you earn money because your song is being played. The disadvantage is that it can get repetitive meaning that people will not view the programme all the time.

A CD is not as important now because itunes is around but before itunes was around CD was bought so people could listen to music at home or in there cars, CD (compact disc) had loads of tracks on it, songs by the artist that sung the song, a CD is avalible to anyone, any age. CD'S can be bought anywhere even on Itunes, but the main place to buy them is at shops like HMV, this shop specialises in selling CD and DVD and it also brings out new CD when they first introduced. The advantage of selling there CD in HMV is that you song will be bought from there and it can also be sold all over the worlds in different HMV shops. The disadvantages of selling your song in a shop like HMV is that when your song is sold out they could take really long before they bring in any more stock and also buying CD isnt as popular as it was many years ago, now you can go on websites and download songs. A CD can earn more money than single albums because they are more expensive than an artrist single.

Youtube is a widely known website to watch latest music videos and to find up coming artists, Youtube is easily accesseble through the internet and people are constantly uploading pictures for the rest of the world to see.
